Our Design
Philosophy: Create A Realm of Enjoyment
The landscape should
enhance the quality of life for our clients. The environment we create
will rejuvenate and inspire our clients to live happy and healthy
lives. The design should respect their lifestyle, attraction to beauty
and financial investment. Our designs integrate the regional climate
with the architecture of the site to the sustainability of the plant
life while gracefully transitioning the garden visitor into a realm of
enjoyment.
The Consultative
Difference
Serving our clients as
Landscape Consultants is the initial step. Thoroughly understanding
their needs while providing creativity and expertise differentiates
EDI.
An outline of the process
of design, landscape architecture, project management, construction
and maintenance is presented so the client fully understands what will
need to take place to realize a magical landscape. EDI strives to
become an advocate and advisor for the client.
The potential of the garden
is explored so the appropriate design efforts and resources can be
coordinated. An introduction of spatial relationships, textures,
colors and circulation is made to the client to help them understand
the type of experience to be created.
Our design consultants
provide a virtual tour of their potential landscape through
descriptions of the sights, sounds, smells and feels of gravel
pathways, trickling water and diffused light through the canopies of
trees. These are the places of peace, playfulness and contentment.
The
Expression of the Concept Design
A concept design(s)
expresses the shape and flow of the landscape. Patios and stone
provide the structure of the garden while pathways and water (actual
or metaphorical) represent the circulation of the garden. Trees,
shrubs and plants are the organs of this living environment. Colors
and textures can convey the mood - whimsical or serene. This, combined
with an artistic element, special to the client, provides guidance to
the client to realize their dream garden. At this level of design the
Client and Architect jointly refine the design to a greater level of
detail.
A Design Process
that Appeals to all of the Senses
During the Concept Design
Phase the Landscape Architect tries to understand how the clients can
best visualize their future garden. Do they want to see the real
plants and stone, do they like to see pictures of garden elements to
help them choose a feel and space,or do they need to tour an actual
garden to experience the full effect?
Everyone requires
different mediums to understand how a space can be transformed. Will
the Designer and Architect layout a hose to represent the shape of a
patio in the client’s backyard? The goal of the Landscape Architect is
to fully understand the site and its limitations, constraints and
potential while simultaneously understanding how to relate and
communicate to the client.
Design
Development Engages Detail
The Design Development
Phase of creating a garden involves the structural, material,
horticultural and resource management of a garden. All of the
infrastructure aspects of the garden are addressed by a Landscape
Architect to ensure structural and functional sustainability. Grading
and drainage, soil conditions, irrigation plans, pump and filtration
details are specified, sourced and cost analyzed.
Detail planting plans are
identified by species, quantity, color, size and density. Even the
lighting layouts and control schemes can be specified. The client will
select materials for patios and gazebos. Tile style will be chosen for
pools and hot tubs. The plan will now encompass a granularity of
detail to gracefully pass to construction experts.
Project Management
Keeping Track of the
Details and Watching the Calendar
The Landscape Architect and
Project Supervisor will share the responsibility of the project
implementation. This activity ensures that all resources are available
and sufficient to complete the project in a timely and quality manner.
Changes are a normal part of projects; therefore, our Project
Management Methodologies address the most efficient and effective way
to control those changes. Our process increases client satisfaction
because of thorough communication and completed projects within
timelines and on budget.
Construction -
Standard of Excellence
EDI has the versatility of
providing a range of crew sizes and expertise along with our supplier
partners to provide masonry, carpentry, horticulture and metal work
among many others. We have the scale to address large projects with
consistency to complete the project in the most efficient and timely
manner.
Recognizing the disruption
of lifestyles during construction, our crews are courteous and
maintain the highest quality of safety and cleanliness at the site.
EDI’s Construction Division has been recognized for efficiency and
high quality craftsmanship.
The Design Team
The design, installation
and maintenance of an award-winning landscape is a combination of
utilizing the best materials, equipment and people in the
industry. Environmental Designs’ staff is comprised of Landscape
Architects and Designers, Horticulturists, Certified Landscape and
Irrigation Technicians, a Board Certified Master Arborist and
installation crews with eight years of experience in the industry.
Although many projects only require one Landscape Architect, EDI has
the resources and the culture to provide our clients a pool of
creativity, knowledge and experience to elevate the standards of our
industry.
